Ibiza Club Guide

For hot summer days and blistering beats, Ibiza is a party paradise. Read on for our in-the-know guide to the island’s best clubbing venues.

Space Ibiza

Arguably the best nightclub in the world, Space Ibiza was once a home from home to the likes of Brandon Block and Marc Spoon – just to name but a few, and is synonymous with partying hard Ibiza style. Located in Playa d’en Bossa, between Ibiza Town and the airport in the South of the island, Space occupies an unpretentious spot in the middle of a massive concrete car park.

But don’t be fooled by the exterior, inside is one of the Balearics’s best nightspots. Located just across the road from the longest beach in Ibiza, Space attracts a super mix of clubbers, headcases and highrollers and is packed to bursting during the summer months.

The main room never fails to entertain with music ranging from anything from uplifting house, trance, techno and more, while the Space terrace is synonymous with blistering DJ sets from everyone who is anyone in dance music. DJs like Carl Cox, Sasha and John Digweed, Steve Lawler, Erick Morillo and many others, have all played at Space in recent years, leading to the club being dubbed by many ‘the club the DJs love to play.’

Sounds: Uplifting house, house, trance, techno. See listings: www.space-ibiza.es

Tip: Get there early to avoid the usual queues and if possible buy a ticket before you go to save cash.

Pacha Ibiza

Known the world over for the best in dance music, Pacha - Ibiza’s oldest nightclub – is one of the most stylish places on the planet to party. Pacha, located in San Antonio, has been entertaining dance music fans and party lovers for a generation now, first throwing open its hedonistic doors way back in May 1973! Today, the Pacha name is synonymous with superb music and a chilled out, party loving crowd.

The main room plays host to all the biggest names in dance music and the speakers have been specifically designed to maintain the perfect level of sound, wherever you are, so thankfully there are no ‘blackspots.’ The Main Room is also home to the world famous VIP room and super-sexy Pacha dancers.

If the madness of the Main Room is a little too much for you, then the Global Room, where Pacha unleash a more experimental sound and more intimate party accommodating just 150 people, could be the place for you. The smallest room in the club is the Funky Room, which plays superb funky disco and lively house; it’s a popular spot with Ibiza locals and clubbers in the know.

Sounds: House, funky house, US House, trance, techno & more. See listings: www.pacha.com

Tip: Check out the Roof Terrace area, a popular haunt with A-listers and superstar Djs. The music is eclectic and the atmosphere is very relaxed – it’s undoubtedly the best spot to chill in the club.

Café del Mar Ibiza

Few nightspots can claim to have inspired their own style of music, but Ibiza's Café del Mar is one of them. For many Ibiza lovers there is nothing that encapsulates all that is good about the White Isle more than the legendary Café del Mar, the undisputed home of chill out. Located on the beach in San Antonio and offering sweeping views out across the bay, there can be no better place to relax with cocktail in hand than Café del Mar.

Music to expect, as anyone who has ever listened to a Café del Mar chillout album will be able to testify is mostly ambient; chilled out, soft and very relaxing. Take in the unique architecture, people watch, chat and enjoy the sunset as countless other blissed out Brits have done after a hard day in the sun or recovering from the night before!

Sounds: Ambient, chilled, trance.

Tip: Arrive early afternoon to bag yourself a good seat to while (or drink!) the afternoon away and truly appreciate that sunset!

Amnesia Ibiza

It may not have the beach, but Amnesia more than makes up for that with its hedonistic parties and all-star DJ lineup. Located on the San Antonio road in the middle of the island, Amnesia casts a large presence over nearby San Rafael. And while Amnesia may not have the sea views or beach backdrop of other Ibiza clubbing institutions, it more than makes up for it with an outstanding sound system, excellent lighting and a superb line-up of DJs, not to mention an always up for it party crowd.

Amnesia regularly plays host to resident parties like the Cocoon Club, La Troya Asesina and Cream, while the likes of Paul Van Dyk, Tiësto, Danny Tenaglia and Carl Cox are just some of the superb DJs to have played at the club in recent years.

Sounds: Like all Ibiza clubs it depends on what night you visit but expect a general portion of tech-house, trance and techno, although check listings before visiting at www.amnesia.es

Tip: Make sure you have plenty of cash on you for a taxi back to the main resorts of Ibiza Town or San Antonio: fares from €35.

Eden Ibiza

Located in San Antonio, Eden is one of the newest kids on the superclub circuit having only come into existence in 1999. Judge Jools was a consultant on the project so as you can expect the soundsystem and DJ booth are second to none. Expect to hear anything, depending on when you visit, from house, RnB, hip hop to old skool; Sunday is the club’s big night where more often than not trance tunes from the likes of Dave Pearce fill the floor.

The club can hold up to 5,000 ravers at a time and, and aside from the large main room, there is also a glass fronted back room. A strictly VIP area upstairs finishes the ensemble.

Sounds: Trance, funky house, US house & more. See listings for details: www.edenibiza.com

Tip: Don’t wear beach wear or sports wear – you won’t get in!

I am going to Ibiza for the first time this June. Like many, I have heard about many of the clubs in this feature, but am glad of a more in depth knowledge and tips which I will take away with me when I travel.
