Brittany Attractions: The Stunning Towns
The region is peppered with tiny towns, medieval castles and chateaux. Visit the beautiful seaside resort of Saint Malo, with the old town still literally surrounded by imposing 17th century ramparts you can walk along, looking out at the ocean. You’ll love the stunning old buildings, merchants’ houses and trendy bustling streets with divine cafes and restaurants.
Close by you’ll find Dinan, a gorgeous medieval town where you’ll find original half-timbered houses Shakespeare might have considered old fashioned, casually housing cafes and creperies. Tour the stunning historical old town and walk the oldest ramparts in Brittany, where Duchess Anne’s parapet offers views over the town and the Rance River. Don’t miss the lively markets, the 13th Century Basilica of Saint-Sauveur or Jerzuel Gate, where you’ll find a stunning medieval walkway. Every second July the town has one of Europe’s biggest medieval festivals, including a jousting tournament, falconry, storming the ramparts and even a medieval market, complete with jugglers, fire eaters and strolling players.

Nearby in the picturesque valley of the River Rance is the tiny but beautiful Lehon, City of Character, with a Benedictine abbey and the stolen relics of Saint Magloire!
While you’re in the area, visit Dinard. Once famously popular with aristocrats and the very rich, the resort town is now somewhat faded, but is still gorgeous, with walks, stunning buildings and a yearly film festival – visit the Grand Hotel for celebrity chic and fun autographed filmstar photographs in the bar.
Further afield, Roscoff is an often ignored but pretty town, with the fabulous gothic architecture of the town centre, 15th century shipowners houses and the impressive Church of Notre-Dame-de-Croas-Batz. Market day is Wednesday at the harbour, where you’ll also see the fishermen auctioning off their catch.
