Beach Destinations: Brit Free Beaches

In the mood for a spot of uninterrupted sunbathing? We showcase four beautiful beaches where British holidaymakers are few and far between!

Beach Holiday Ideas - Kerala, South India

Right on the southernmost tip of India, Kerala boasts a fantastic tropical climate, exotic landscapes and wildlife, miles of coastline, waterfalls, plantations and calm, stunning beaches.

Try Bekal Beach, flanked by the imposing Bekal Fort – one of the most important and best preserved in Kerala, offering stunning panoramic views of the palm-fringed beaches. It’s in a beautiful, exotic forested location, and there’s even a park for the kids.

Another stunning beach is Alappuzha, famous for its boat races and old maritime pier and lighthouse.

Beach Holiday Ideas - Villasimius, Sardinia

Forty kilometres East of Cagliari, close to the Costa Rei in the south-western coast of Sardinia, is the beautiful and lively resort town of Villasimius. With as many brilliant beaches as you can count on two hands, all within a short distance from the resort centre, the main draw to the area is undoubtedly the outstanding beaches.

The area boasts stunning natural beauty, with panoramic pristine white sand, clear blue seas, cliffs and creeks and not a burnt Brit in sight - whatever beach you choose to encamp. Villasimius lagoon, flanked by a long stretch of white beach is also home to migrating pink flamingos, which add something more to the phrase ‘checking out the birds on the beach,’ while the town of Villasimius itself has a number of laidback bars, nightlife, pizzerias, hotels and restaurants, catering to all tastes and budgets.

Beach Holiday Ideas - Esperance, South-Western Australia

The Esperance coastline is a long, dramatic panorama of cliffs, dunes, bright blue sea and beautiful wide white sandy beaches. The most stunning are Lucky Bay, Dolphin Bay and Esperance Bay, all hugging Western Australia's south coast. The Bay of Isles is perfect for fishing, sailing, watersports like surfing and scuba diving, exploring the offshore islands or simply basking in the fantastic Australian rays.

It’s surrounded by lush national parks, including the Cape Le Grand National Park with its beautiful hiking and four wheel drive trails. Esperance is also the location of the famous salt dense lakes, including Pink Lake – which really is turned pink by the red algae living in its waters.

Beach Holiday Ideas - Thong Nai Pan Yai, Thailand

This palm-tree lined beach on the Thai island of Koh Phangan is located at the end of a rough dirt road through the jungle, surrounded by beautiful mountains and waterfalls. Dotted with bungalow lodges, costing next-to-nothing to rent this is a superb spot to recharge the batteries. The beach itself is long and wide, lapped by a beautiful clear blue sea, with the occasional sight of a fishing boat or pleasure cruise to draw your attention.

The beach is popular with backpackers and there are a number of bars to be found at the back of the beach. However, if this isn’t quite your scene, don’t worry; Thong Nai Pan Yai is accommodating enough to leave you feeling completely blissed out. And, if the mood takes you, there are regular boats available from the beach to one of Thailand’s legendary Full Moon Parties. It’s a great destination for stressed out office-workers looking to chill out in the sun, but possibly party, too.

I'm sure so many will find this feature of use. I find it really hard to have a beach holiday whilst not being in the middle of thousands of brits. It's also great to know there are some truly unspoilt beaches still out there.
